I should have written this post last Sunday because I don’t think this content is evergreen at this point…oh well.

You may have not realized it by now but I thoroughly enjoy my alone time.  Every now and then I’ll spend one of my day’s off wandering around my city and people watching.  Last Sunday I decided to take my camera with me while I walked around the Neon District of Norfolk, VA.  The Neon Festival was going on that weekend, but by the time I arrived on Sunday afternoon it was coming to a close.  I sat on a bench across from a food truck and tried to figure out what my next move was going to be.  As I was sitting, one of the owner’s of the food truck asked me if I took good pictures with that thing, referring to my camera.  I told her that I do alright, and she said that if I got some good shots of her truck I could have any entree item half off.  I thought about it for a moment and decided to take her up on her challenge.  I hadn’t even looked at the menu but I figured I could get some good practice whether she liked the photos or not.

Once I was finished I showed her my photos and she was so pleased with them that she decided to give me a free entree and a dessert!  I had the shrimp tacos, which were BOMB AF, and this Belgian waffle thing with ice cream and chocolate sauce and something else that I can’t remember drizzled on top.  (I was recently in a very heated debate about waffles relevancy in the breakfast world.  I like muffins better while many of my “friends” prefer waffles.  I didn’t understand the hype, until last Sunday.)  This beautiful little waffle was just crunchy enough and just sweet enough that I could have eaten it without the ice cream and assortment of sauces.  Also, they make their own ice cream But back to the shrimp tacos…the shrimp were huge and everything tasted extremely fresh.  I don’t even eat tomatoes usually but these were special.  They also put slaw on the tacos along with their chipotle Mexican crema. I can’t tell you what’s in it because I don’t remember but I could put it on just about anything.

My decadent dessert

My decadent dessert

I’m not only grateful to Logan and Madison at Balu’s Surf Shack for the free food, but I appreciate them for giving me the opportunity to display my talents.  I feel like that whole day confirmed my thoughts about taking my photography seriously again.  It also gave me the push I needed to post my work because up until now all the photos I’ve taken are sitting in a folder on my laptop.  There are two reasons why I haven’t been displaying my photos, the first is because of laziness and the other is a fear of criticism.  I also fear that someone might steal my photos and claim them as their own but I don’t worry about that too much since I don’t think my photos are that great lol.

But clearly they are!  Just look at em! Go ahead…scroll up.  Is your mouth watering?  It’s okay, mine is too.
